London has been infested by ghosts, specters and apparitions. They are, by no means, innocuous. Londoners use different means of protection, ranging from lavender bundles, ghost lamps to irons; even a curfew has been imposed to prevent city residents from going out after dark. The situation gave rise to the establishment of numerous ghost buster companies competing on this though and challenging market. The employees are mostly juvenile ghost busters with supernatural abilities of seeing, listening and touching. A team of young and devoted ghost eradicators sets off to combat the evil. Antony Lockwood, Lucy Carlyle and George are ready to go on the frontline and face the supernatural. They stake their lives and they know for what. There are many means of protection at their disposal: rapiers, Greek fires, irons, but the most valuable ones are friendship, loyalty, commitment and devotion. Combe Carey Hall is the most notorious haunting ground in the country. What does it conceal? Whose souls are in the screaming staircase? Can juvenile ghost busters solve the case? Will they survive? All these questions will be answered. The brilliant novel, the beautiful performance by Miranda Raison. Jonathan Stroud excelled himself!
